OUR ACTIVITIES

How We Work

Class Groups

The school has accommodation for 100 pupils. We intend to have 8 class groups in the school with Ten pupils in each class.   Every class is staffed by a Teacher(EYFS Practitioner), Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Midday Meals Supervisor(s).  Pupils are placed in class groups according to their age.  Children are taught as a class group, in small groups or individually. Some classes are designed to meet the needs of pupils who need a very structured learning environment and minimal distraction (children with autism) and some classes are designed for learners who need highly stimulating and multi-sensory environments.  There is a focused ability based English/ Communication lesson for thirty minutes each day.

Pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)

In the Learning Support Base pupils are provided with lessons that enable learning through interactive communication, sensory experiences and discovery.  Other lessons incorporate hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and use of the Interactive Learning Studios.

AFTER-SCHOOL SERVICES/CLUB

We run an After School Club for any children who would like to remain in school from 3pm to 5.45pm. The club is extremely popular and is run by school staff.  The package includes a healthy snack/light meal with a desert. The children spend time outside on the playground, play games and take part in activities such as: art, board games, watch films, play various iPad games etc.

The club accepts up to 40 children per session.

READING CLUB

Why an activity-based book club? While every kid loves a good story, not all love to read. An activity-based book club focuses not on reading skills, but on celebrating the story — characters, setting, themes and more — and taps into kids’ natural instinct to share ideas with peers, and to play and create. And for many reluctant readers, turning a book into a craft or activity with their friends is just the thing they need to get them over the hump.

PARENT-TEACHER PARTNERSHIP

As our newest and most popular option, our Art Lessons tends to fill up fast - so if you’re interested, get in touch today to reserve a spot for your child. Feel free to give us a call with any questions!

OUTDOOR GAMES

The outdoor areas provide designated spaces for Mud, Gravel, Sand and Water areas as well as natural areas.  It is important to us that our children are surrounded by sensory experiences and natural life such as grass, trees and wildlife.

Our crates and loose parts large outdoor construction has proved very popular with the children.  Here they can imagine, plan, think critically, create, construct, balance, develop ideas, work together and solve problems

LITERACY

By the end of Reception our key aims for children are:

  • Reading: children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

  • Writing: children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible

MATHEMATICS

By the end of Reception our key aims for children are:

  • Numbers: children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

  • Shape, space and measures: children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore 12 characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.
